Is Hillary Clinton tied to the Muslim Brotherhood?

July 12, 2012 -

Is Hillary Clinton’s deputy chief of staff a clandestine operative for the Muslim Brotherhood?  That’s what some are alleging today.  Let’s look at what we know and what we don’t.

Huma Abedin began working for Mrs. Clinton as a White House intern in 1996.  She served as her traveling chief of staff during the 2008 presidential campaign.  Mrs. Clinton once said of her, “I have only one daughter.  But if I had a second daughter, it would [be] Huma.”

Abedin was born in Michigan, moving to Saudi Arabia when she was two years old.  Her parents both received Ph.D. degrees from the University of Pennsylvania; she attended George Washington University.  Former president Bill Clinton presided at her wedding to then-Congressman Anthony Weiner.  In 2010, Time magazine included her in its “40 under 40” list of “rising stars of American politics.”

Skeptics are asking, if Abedin is a fervent Islamist, why did she marry a Jew?  And if her mother is a radical Muslim, why has she not denounced her daughter’s marriage?  Others counter that her marriage is part of a strategy to bolster Abedin’s position in Washington so she can leak state secrets and otherwise serve radical Islam.

I cannot find any evidence that proves Huma Abedin’s direct connection with the Muslim Brotherhood (though the absence of such evidence is further evidence of a conspiracy for some).  But I do know that vigilance without paranoia is vital in our ongoing battle with radical Islam.  This is ultimately a spiritual conflict with a spiritual enemy.  As C. S. Lewis observed, the devil wants us to ignore his existence or give him too much attention—either mistake advances his cause and hurts the Kingdom.

Scripture warns us that “Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14).  Have you prayed today for God to grant wisdom to our leaders in these perilous times (1 Timothy 2:1-2)?  Have you asked your Father to show you areas in your life where you have been deceived by the “father of lies” (John 8:44)?

Let’s close with another statement by C. S. Lewis: “If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth, only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair.”  Jesus promised that “the Spirit of truth” will “guide you into all truth” (John 16:13).  Have you sought his guidance yet today?
