The fingerprints of my Father

November 15, 2011 -

I was walking in our neighborhood this morning and saw these trees.  I have no idea what kind of trees they are, as I am botanically challenged–I can identify a rose bush and a redwood, but not much in between.  I don’t know how old they are, or if they were planted by the home builder or the current residents.  But I know that my Father made them.

There’s a story about a skeptical scientist who told God he could have made a much better planet.  The Lord took up his challenge, agreeing that each would begin from scratch and see what they could create.  When the scientist bent down to scoop up some soil, God said: “Get your own dirt.”

Humans don’t really make anything–we just move around what God has made.  With all our technological advances, we cannot create a single blade of grass.  The first law of thermodynamics states the principle succinctly: energy can be neither created nor destroyed–it can only change forms.

As Creator, my Father measures the universe with the palm of his hand (Isaiah 40:12) and owns all that exists: “every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills” (Psalm 50:10).  If your father were Bill Gates, you probably wouldn’t worry about this month’s house payment.  If Jesus is your Lord, your father is the Lord of the universe.  Now, what’s your problem today?
