Federal employee downloaded 7,000 porn files at work

September 26, 2014 -

According to The Washington Post, there is no uniform federal government law that employees cannot look at pornography at work. As a result, a senior-level employee with the Environmental Protection Agency was recently caught spending as much as six hours of his workday looking at porn. He had downloaded and viewed more than 7,000 pornographic files. Four months later, the employee is on leave but still being paid.

Meanwhile, a staffer at the Federal Communications Commission spent up to eight hours a week browsing porn at work, while a Treasury Department employee downloaded more than 13,000 pornographic images in a six-week span. This news prompted Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) to introduce a bill making porn viewing illegal for all federal employees while at work. His bill would require the Office of Management and Budget to issue guidelines prohibiting porn watching on federal computers.
The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition and the plague of pornography by Jim Denison I have written recently on the pervasive plague that is pornography today. It is estimated that 40 percent of American adults and 70 percent of Americans ages 18-24 regularly visit porn websites. One in five mobile searches are for porn. One in five rented movies is pornographic. Hollywood makes 400 movies a year; the porn industry makes 11,000.

One expert calls pornography “the drug of the millennium and more addictive than crack cocaine.” Tragically, Christians are not immune: 47 percent of believers say porn is a problem in their home. Forty percent of pastors say they struggle with this issue.

What can people do to defeat pornographic temptation?

One: follow Rep. Meadows’s lead and make porn as inaccessible as possible. Numerous Internet filtering programs are available today. Our ministry is aware of X3church (www.xxxchurch.com), Mobicip (www.mobicip.com), Covenant Eyes (www.covenanteyes.com), and Internet Safety’s Safe Eyes (www.internetsafety.com).

Two: seek an accountability partner who will ask hard questions and encourage holiness: “Brothers, if anyone is caught in a transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:1-2).

Three: see all people as God sees them. A dear friend and I were discussing the problem of pornography recently and he made this observation: a woman being exploited in a pornographic image or movie is someone’s daughter and granddaughter. If men would think of her as their daughter or granddaughter, their heart would change. I’m convinced that he’s right.

If pornography is a struggle for you, know that God still loves you. Know that Christians are ready to help you—reach out to your pastor or a trusted friend. And know that the Holy Spirit is more powerful than any temptation. Claim God’s promise: “We are more than conquerors through him who loved us” (Romans 8:37). “We” includes you.
