Conner Jones: [00:00:00] Hi, I’m Conner Jones.

Micah Tomasella: I’m Micah Tomasella.

Conner Jones: And this is Culture Brief, a Denison Forum podcast where we navigate the constant stream of top stories and news, politics, sports, pop culture, and technology. And we are doing it all from a Christian perspective. And today we have a very special guest. Our first guest ever actually here on Culture Brief.

We’ve had some other people join us. You’ve heard them from our ministry, but today we’re bringing an outside person. That man, Micah and I just, we love talking to this guy. We love getting to see what he’s up to. His name is Landon Wolfe and you have very likely heard his voice before either on the radio, if you still listen to radio or on podcast, or not podcast, but Spotify, anywhere you listen to music, Landon’s voice is.

There because he sings at the Passion Conference. He sings with Passion City Church. Most importantly, maybe most notably, the song the “Lord Will Provide”. Landon is the lead singer on that. And man, we’re so excited to have Landon here joining us. He is an alumni of Dallas Baptist University. Just like Micah and I, we were all three in the [00:01:00] same fraternity together.

That’s how we know each other. That’s how we were able to reach out to Landon and say, Hey man, you’re doing really cool things. You’re on large stages. You’re in front of a lot of people with specifically young adults in this generation that is really grasping on to the Lord. And there’s a movement that seems to be happening in, in like America, maybe around the world.

And so we were like, who better talk to about this cultural movement and what’s going on in culture and how to impact culture with where the Lord has placed you? Then Landon, man, Landon, welcome to the show.

Landon Wolfe: Let’s go. Thank you. I’m so pumped to be here. I’m so pumped to catch up with you guys and hear about what’s going on in your world as well.

Micah Tomasella: Thanks, Landon. Man. We’re really glad that you’re here. If you guys don’t know the song, Conner, do you wanna sing it for us? Sing it.

Conner Jones: Landon’s, literally right here. And he can, my voice is gone. Sorry, I, it’s a no for me. I can’t do it, man. Okay.

Micah Tomasella: Everything I need. Woo. Everything I need. Think my father has it.

And it’s so seek first [00:02:00] the kingdom. And it’s treasures. It’s scripture. All right? Yes. But they pay me to speak. Not to sing, but listen it’s a really good song. I still listen to the radio and every time I’m in the car. It doesn’t matter who’s in the car with me Now, I, I, you know, I think I said this earlier, it doesn’t matter who I’m in the car with me, like I have a bunch of random people in the car, you know, hobos whatever it might be, I’m just picking ’em up and I’m like, Hey, this song comes on and no matter who’s in the car with me, if it plays and it’s the Lord will provide passion.

Featuring Landon Wolf. I’m like, Hey, I know this guy. We went to college together. We’re in the same fraternity. Yes, true. So it’s, it’s a joy to have you with us, man. You’re making such an incredible impact, dude. Thank

Landon Wolfe: you so much. That means the world to me seriously. And I also just wanna encourage you guys real quick.

I love this podcast. I literally, a few weeks ago, it’s hard to look around. Our world right now and not feel like things are a little shaky. Like things are a little wobbly and like things are a little outta control. But I, I was like, I wanna know what’s going on in the world, [00:03:00] but I don’t wanna turn on the news and be stressed or anxious.

And we know that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but I was like, let me, let me turn on the culture brief. And I just found you guys talk about what’s going on. But you give people the truth and the, the thing that’s constant, and there’s just a level of peace that comes with a, when we remind, when we remind ourselves that yes, the world around us may be shaky, but we know the one thing that’s constant.

We know the God who’s not shakeable. Mm-hmm. Amen. And reminding people of that. So I love what you guys are doing and man, I’m just honored to be a part of it today.

Micah Tomasella: Thankful for you, man. Yeah. Glad you’re here. Glad here. We’re grateful for you. Yep.

Conner Jones: We appreciate that. And, and Landon, you’re, you’re just, I I did wanna say real fast your official title at Passion City Church is

Landon Wolfe: Worship coordinator.

Okay. Yes.

Conner Jones: And that leads to a lot of different things ’cause you’re, yes. You’re leading worship basically all the time. Yes. 24 7 at the big passion conference every year filled with. How many thousands of young adults I mean football, NFL stadiums. Yeah.

Landon Wolfe: [00:04:00] Yes. It’s crazy. My role specifically at church I am over the way our team works, it’s, it’s really interesting when you join the worship team at Passion City, you lead everywhere.

You lead and passion kids, passion students, passion, young adults bloom, which is our preschoolers auditorium, which is like our main gatherings. So I, I help schedule and plan songs and meet with our team for our passion kids, our young adults, our choir and then help with songwriting stuff on our team.

And then, yeah, on top of all of that leading worship outside of church inside of church on Sundays these different events, you know? And so yeah, man, I love it. I love it so much.

Micah Tomasella: So for, for clarity’s sake here, you, you get to work with Christian Stanfield, right?

Landon Wolfe: Yeah. Yeah. He’s a legend. That dude, he’s one of

Micah Tomasella: the best.

He is. I mean, guys just look up Khristian Stanfield with a K, not with a c. I don’t know why, but, you know, anyway, I guess you just have to ask him. Look it up with a K. That guy has sung and has written. Songs that have changed the, the [00:05:00] church in the last 15 years, like the a hundred percent, all of the absolute worship bangers he’s put out is unbelievable.

And it’s, it’s, it’s cool that you get to work with him. I mean, it’s, it’s a

Landon Wolfe: dream. Like he’s, I’ve learned so much from him and yeah, man. Amazing. Yeah, it’s the best.

Micah Tomasella: So it’s been cool to see you be faithful and obedient to the Lord with this platform that puts you on stages in front of. Hundreds of thousands of people each year.

So the video of you leading the Lord will provide at Passion 2024 has 2.8 million views. Wow. On YouTube. We’ll link that in the show notes so that you guys can see it. But more than that, your music plays in the, in the ears of millions helping stir their heart and devotion to the Lord. Just to start out here with our first question, can you just, can you just talk to us about what Passion Conference is and how your church has been such a big part of that, you know, passion Church.

Yeah. Passion Conference, and really how it’s sought to reach young people for so long. I mean, can you just tell us about the Passion Conference for those who might not know about it?

Landon Wolfe: Yeah. I mean, what Passion Conference is [00:06:00] just right off the bat. It’s a conference for 18 to 25 year olds. Passion Conference has gone on for so many more years, more years than I’ve even been alive.

It started in 1998. Wow. I was born in 99, so just missed it. Wow. Just missed the first one. But it’s been going on. It might’ve been 97 actually but many years under the leadership of Pastor Louis Giglio and his wife Shelly. And they just had this, this vision from the Lord to see young people come to know Jesus and see the ripple effects throughout our country, throughout our cities, throughout the, the world.

And so they. They created a space. One of the scr, the main scripture that’s kind of over the banner, over passion is I Isaiah 26, 8. Yes, Lord, walking in the way of your truth for we wait for you for your name and your renowned as the desire of our souls and Amen. And that’s what Passion Conference is.

It’s, it’s a place for young people to come. And experience Jesus for us to create a space to make much of Jesus, to make much of His name so that [00:07:00] the whole world would know that there’s nothing greater than this. And so I, I love getting to be a part of it. I was, I attended passion as a college student.

I, I attended my first passion in 2018. And I have been every year since. I, it changed, it changed my life. It impacted my life in some incredible ways. And so now to, to be on this side of it, I mean, that is. Is such a gift from God. I, I don’t take it lightly. I don’t take it for granted, but man, I love what, what is happening in young people, and I want them to know that there is a God who loves him, who sees him.

And this is worth worth giving your life to, you know? Yeah.

Micah Tomasella: So it, so the, so just for clarity, the, the, the conference happens every year. Yep. And the average attendance is what? And it goes on for how many days?

Landon Wolfe: So it, it fluctuates a little bit, but typically three days. And then honestly, it kind of depends on venue.

Like last I think my, the first one I led at was in 2022, which was a [00:08:00] Mercedes-Benz, and I wanna say it was like 60,000. And then we were at State Farm last year, which holds I wanna say 20,000. And so there’s we, we did. Two conferences there. So that was like six days, two separate conferences, same venue.

And then, I mean, in past years they’ve done Atlanta, Dallas Washington, DC all at the same time this coming year. And we can get to this in a little bit, but we’ll be actually in Arlington, Texas. Globe Life and Globe Life. I’m Pump for that. Go Rangers. I think Globe life holds probably 40,000 plus. And so it’s, it’s crazy the, the reach that passion conference is having, you know?

Conner Jones: That’s so cool. Just to, just to clarify, the Mercedes-Benz, when you said that very casually that that is where the Atlanta Falcons of the NFL play? Yes. So this is a massive NFL stadium, right? You’re talking about an NLB stadium.

Micah Tomasella: Didn’t have the conference in the car or anything. It’s crazy in

Landon Wolfe: the stadium.

Conner Jones: Landon, you kind of mentioned it, that this group of younger people, and something [00:09:00] that we really like to think about here on culture brief, we’ve talked about it several times, is there does seem to be this spiritual movement happening amongst the younger cohort of our generation.

Whether it’s millennials or really particularly Gen Z. Something’s happening. I mean, there’s something in the water and I think it’s the Holy Spirit, right? Yes. Yes. I think everybody can kind of see. There is a group of young people who, they’re on fire for the Lord. They want to understand what it is that Christians have.

They wanna understand what this Bible is, what the God that all these Christians talk about is who’s Jesus, what’s the gospel? All of this. Have you kind of in the last year or so, seen some of that within your, your place at this church, at Passion conference anywhere? Just, I know you’re among many people in that generation a lot, and you’re helping lead worship for them.

Are you seeing that? Dude

Landon Wolfe: so much, and it is wild. I mean, it is, it’s, there’s, there’s a hunger, there’s, it’s a real, just like hunger for truth, I think. I think Gen Z they don’t wanna [00:10:00] be babied anymore. They want clarity. They wanna know the truth. They wanna know Hey, what’s going on? Why, why is the world look like this?

What’s happening? We want the truth. Yeah. And I think there, and I’m, I’m praise God that there’re realizing that there is only one thing that can satisfy their souls. And it’s Jesus. And, and yeah, I’ve had, I’ve had, I’ve seen this physically in so many ways. I mean, passion conferences. A perfect example of that.

I, I’ve had the, the opportunity to do summer camps and like traveling into different states and like watching these middle schoolers. I mean, face down, in the presence of God, of this is the place I wanna be. I’ve seen in our own church, our our young adults ministry that I get to help steer every, it was crazy this summer we have a thing called Summer in the City, and our fir like the last three, it was like, this one was like, this is the most young adults we’ve ever had at one.

And then the next one was even more than that. This was the most we’ve ever had at one. And then the next one, the last one was like. Is the most we’ve ever had. It was just like this [00:11:00] very, and, and I know it’s not about the numbers. I don’t wanna always get into the numbers. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But that is such a physical representation of people want to be in the presence of God.

And it’s so awesome. I mean, that, that is like why we worship. That is why we create a space, because we know that God is so worthy of our praise. And so what a gift just to create a space for people to give it to him.

Micah Tomasella: I mean, and it’s, it’s, it’s exciting to, to. To be a part of something that has momentum.

Yeah. Something that’s alive and growing. I mean, and I can’t think of anything better than being a part of God’s kingdom and advancing it. And you just have such a unique place in that, and I love that that’s what you’re seeing. I mean, we’ve just gone over so many specific numbers about Gen Z and their openness to Jesus right now.

There’s numbers come coming out right now of Barna that, that millennials and Gen Z, their church attendance is actually more today. Than it is Gen X, baby boomers. The younger generations are attending church more frequently right now. Yes. Not later in life right now. I mean, it’s, it’s [00:12:00] unbelievable how we’re seeing things get flipped on their head.

I mean, I, I can’t think of anything better than young people being passionate about Jesus and building their lives on that. Now Landon, tell us the song that I so eloquently sang earlier. So good. Obviously has a lot of scripture in it, but it’s called The Lord Will Provide. Yeah. Can you just tell us the story of that song, how that came to be, how many renditions there are of it now?

It seems like there’s so many Yeah. Because it’s such a great song, man. Can you just tell us about how that song came to be?

Landon Wolfe: Yeah it has three very incredible writers on it. Brett Yoker, who’s a part of passion. Then Chris Davenport and Jess Kates, they, they got together one day and and they wrote this song Brett will tell the story that on his way there he was like, he had this idea of he really wanted to write a song called Flowers, and then remembered that Miley Cyrus already has a song called Flowers and Oh yeah, he just, he loved the idea that that.

That that Matthew six idea that if, if God dresses the lilies with beauty and splendor, how much more will he [00:13:00] provide for us and how much more will he care for us? Yep. And they wrote the song and Brett started leading it kind of at church. And our team like got to hear it. And they asked me, they were like, Hey, would you have any interest in leading the song?

Let’s try it at passion. And I was like, absolutely. I love this song. And I mean, honestly for me, I like though I didn’t write it. I feel it so deeply I think. Yeah. I was actually talking to someone about this yesterday, like the honestly, like one of the things that I’ve struggled with just throughout a lot of my life is worry and anxiety and just the fear of the future.

And. Man, what a crazy God thing that now I’m carrying a song about not being afraid of the future. Yeah. And, and so I’m just like, I’m so grateful for that. And we have about, I wanna say I should have checked before, but I think there’s seven versions now. Do we have the original live from conference?

I’ve listened to all of them. Dude. I love it. Listen to all ambitions. Love. I love it. Yeah. We had the live from conference. We have one featuring our friend Anna Golden, featuring our friend Jamie McDonald. We have a, a [00:14:00] gospel worship together right version. Yep. Worship. Love that version together. Yeah. Our gospel version.

That’s a deep cut. Landon, that one’s a deep cut. Dude, you, you know all the versions we got. Yeah, man, that,

Micah Tomasella: that one’s a deep, okay. Okay. So here I’ll probablys one, but. Yeah. So here’s some powerful lyrics right From the song. Yeah. So why would I worry it all? When you’re faithful to supply everything I need, my father has it every single time the Lord will provide, he gives us blessings upon blessings, and I’m still believing.

I know the Lord will provide the bridge. Yes. So seek first the kingdom and its treasures and everything else. It will be added. All that I’m needing, the Lord will provide. I think that why it’s so powerful. That’s just scripture. Yeah, brother. Yeah. That’s just the words of Jesus. You know, and so I think that it’s beautiful to see this worship song get so much traction too, because it’s, it’s less about God, here’s, here’s exactly how I’m feeling and I’m going through this tough time.

You know, just kind of that classic mm-hmm. Christian song or worship song, right? It’s, yeah, here’s how I’m feeling, but here’s what, here’s what scripture has to say about it. [00:15:00] Yeah. Put into song form, and so it’s. Man, it’s just beautiful. In, in what ways have you seen it specifically resonate with believers?

Landon Wolfe: Yeah. I think just to even piggyback off that, not only is it scripture, it’s Jesus himself was speaking Yeah, it’s the, the Sermon on the mount. Yep. He looks out at the people and he says, don’t be anxious about tomorrow. Tomorrow, be anxious about itself. Each day has enough troubles of its own. And then it’s a call to response, but seek first the kingdom and its treasure or seek first the kingdom and its righteousness and all these other things will be added to it as well.

That thing, the things he’s talking about is the, the sparrows of the air, the, the flowers of the field. If he cares for them, how much more significant are his children? And I think people are realizing that, that there is a God who, who sees them, who cares for them, and it feels maybe everything isn’t going how they thought it would, you know, I think that’s, that’s the main thing I I want people to take away, is that the Lord will provide does not necessarily mean that he’s gonna give you a.

All the money in the world. It’s not exactly that he’s gonna provide all these physical things. It, it’s a [00:16:00] reminder that he himself is what we need, that he is what we, everything that we need. And so it, I, I remember having a conversation with a guy who him and his wife had recently, they were expecting a baby ended up losing the baby, and it was so heartbreaking.

But the thing that he said, it was, he, his realization was not that the Lord would provide this child as heartbreaking as it was, but the Lord provided peace and comfort in their really desperate time for him. And, and it just wrecked me. But it was such a good reminder that, that he himself is the very thing we need, that the, honestly, my favorite line in the song as of lately is that if I have you, I have enough.

And and so just, I just, I just love that and I, there’s so many like little pieces of like I love in the, I’m still believing it’s like that word still. It’s like that’s such a key word because it’s like, hey, things might not look like how I want, but I’m still gonna believe ’cause I’ve seen God come through.

I know who he is. I know that he sees me. I know that he cares for me. So I’m still believing. I know the Lord will provide. He has provided everything I have [00:17:00] needed.

Micah Tomasella: Dude, you’re gonna make me tear up. Dude, I’m like,

Landon Wolfe: this is, this

Micah Tomasella: is, yeah. No, you’re gonna make me tear up. Seriously, we finish this podcast.

Alright, Conner, what else,

Conner Jones: man? Sorry. That’s, that’s just really good stuff and I think it’s all. It’s all made even more powerful when you take these talented musicians and like you guys are using your talents, taking those lyrics and just producing this beautiful song. I think, I think, you know, this younger generation, they like that style of worship.

They want real and genuine and they want scripture. And then, you know when it sounds good too, that just that helps boost it even more. Landon, you specifically. Your voice is amazing. You’re very talented. I can’t remember what all instruments you play. Thank you. I believe you play piano. Yes.

Piano. Yeah. So you, when did you realize you kinda had a, a gift for music? When did that love for music come about and when did you realize, okay. This is maybe a God-given talent and I should use it in some way that is up to him and not fully up to me.

Landon Wolfe: Yeah. I grew up in a really musical family, so my dad has been a music [00:18:00] teacher for over 30 years now.

Wow. My mom sings, my brother sings, plays guitar, and so we just had instruments all over our house and so I don’t remember when I first started singing it just like I just. I was born into it. I just grew up around it. My parents bought me my first drum set when I was three. And I played drums probably till I was about eight, and then I discovered the piano and so I started playing the piano and I fell in love with that.

I just. Playing and singing and figuring all that out. And then in high school, when I was probably 16 or 17, is when I started leading at church. And I was like most worship leaders play acoustic guitar when they lead, so I guess I should learn that as well. So then I got an acoustic, and then I started trying to figure that out and.

And that’s kind of when I started, like I just, I fell in love. Like I, I became a Christian at a young age. And so I, I grew up loving Jesus and I’ve always loved people and I’ve loved music and I was like, I can combine all of these things and do this for my life. It’s a dream. [00:19:00] And I was like, okay, yeah, I wanna do that.

And yeah, I was like 17 when I started leading in my church youth group in Dallas. And I did that for many years. And then I went to DBU and actually got a degree in Christian studies with an emphasis in music ministry, like studied worship and let it DBU and let it. Started leading at D Ns, continued leading at my church and just started chapel team leading all over.

Yes. Chapel team, dude chapel are, those are the

Micah Tomasella: days. Our pie, theta, Tao Vision Nights. Yes. You know what I mean? Our rush events. Dude. Yes. Guys, we had rush events with worship Be, I know that sounds counterintuitive but it was beautiful, especially when Landon did it,

Landon Wolfe: dude. Thank you, Brent. But yeah, that was, that’s kind of the story.

I just, I, I fell in love with it and I haven’t stopped. I, I love it so much and I just, man, I, at the end of the day, I just care so much about people. Understanding what it means to worship. I don’t like, I don’t wanna just get up and try to make you sing. I want us to realize one of my favorite things to remind people is that [00:20:00] worship doesn’t start with us.

Worship’s never stop, never stopped. We know that. Day and night at risk. Revelation tells us that the angels never cease to sing Holy, holy holies, the Lord God Almighty, who was and is didn’t is to come. So when we step into worship, when we sing those words, we’re just, we’re stepping into the song that heaven singing and, and what a joy that is to, to get to worship God for all that he deserves.

Mm-hmm. It’s so true. You

Micah Tomasella: know, I, I think when I’m hearing you speak, or I, I think the better term for you, and I know you’re. Your title is Worship Coordinator, and a lot of that has to do with the fact of all of the different worship elements you oversee at your church and the events that you do. But, but really you’re a worship pastor because ultimately your heart and you being intentionally rooted in scripture and everything that you do just like a sermon is delivered.

And that’s helping people grow in knowledge and truth and really ushering them into God’s presence. You’re doing the same thing in worship, and you’re just as, as rooted in [00:21:00] scripture as the pastor is whenever he comes up to preach. And in my opinion, you are a worship pastor, which I know that you already are, but it’s I hope that that’s how it’s treated across the board.

I know that there’s no perfect places and spaces, but that’s exactly how it should be, and I love the way that you approach it. So Landon. What advice would you give to our younger listeners who are trying to discern what the Lord is calling them to do in their lives? Like it, it seemed like it kind of clicked for you and it came together, but of course you had seasons and periods of doubt.

Yes. But you know what it, you know what, what advice would you give to our younger listeners who are trying to discern what’s next for them and what the Lord has for them?

Landon Wolfe: Yeah, I think that’s, that’s such a great question and. I think I would just say, I, I, I think there’s a few things I wanna say. First of all, I think there’s not necessarily a clear answer all the time, and that’s okay.

Yeah. You know, I, I think so often, I, I’m sure we’ve all said the prayer, if God, if he could just. [00:22:00] Tell me just, just tell me exactly what you want me to do. That would be great. And and that doesn’t always happen, right? And, and that’s okay. And that, that’s where faith comes from. And trusting him.

I, I love the scripture and I know we’ve probably all heard it, but Proverbs three, trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean on on your own understanding, but in all of your ways, acknowledge him and he’ll make your path straight. I love the word acknowledge there. It’s kinda if we were like having a conversation and you guys just were like doing the podcast and I was just like, sitting over here and no one like said anything like, oh, Landon’s here, but we’re gonna just keep doing our own thing. I would just kind of sit here, you know? It’s but when you acknowledge that I’m here, when you acknowledge oh, like we’re having a conversation, the three of us then I become kind of a part of the conversation.

And I think in the same way that God, that’s kind of what he’s asking us to do there. Acknowledge him, bring him into the conversation. Bring him into your questions, bring ’em into your doubts, to your worries about stepping into this next season, or. Maybe it’s a job, maybe it’s a, a big move, whatever it is.

I would just encourage any young listener, listeners acknowledge him. And though the answer might [00:23:00] not always be black and white, you know, that’s where faith comes in and we can just learn to trust him. And, and at the end of the day remembering that you’re not big enough or powerful enough to mess up God’s plan for your life.

And just to rest in that and know that he’s good and know that, that he’s sovereign and he has good plans for us.

Micah Tomasella: I think about Proverbs 16, nine, man plans his steps with the Lord establishes them. Yes. So it’s this, it is, it is this coupling of I’m gonna get up and I’m gonna give my absolute best effort, but I’m gonna partner with God and I’m going to acknowledge him in everything that I do.

Yep. And I’m gonna take it one day at a time. If, if, if the entire staircase as you’re walking up relating to life mm-hmm. Is illuminated. Why do we need faith? Why do we need God? It’s one step after another, one day after another, putting him as the king of your heart and the throne of your heart, day in and day out, and partnering that with Max’s effort.

And then you know you, before you know it, you look back and you’re like, my [00:24:00] goodness gracious God, you’ve been so faithful, and yet I doubted you over and over and over again. And then even as I’m saying that, I had worries this morning. About what my future held, about the future of our country, about the future of my family.

But then I take a step back and I say, yeah, I’ve kind of had those doubts all along, and yet God was still faithful. He was faithful enough to where we’re sitting right here, having this conversation. Yeah, doing ministry, doing the Lord’s work, you know? Yes.

Conner Jones: Yeah. That question of, you know, you talk to God, you say, God, please just make it clear.

Yeah. Tell me what to do next. Yeah. How many times have I been there, done that? Just waiting for the super clear answer. But God, he always has a unique way of, of just carving your path and making it known what you need to do. And, you know, it might be an interesting journey to get where you are.

Mm-hmm. But man, if you’re out there and you’re, you’re wondering like, what’s next in my life? What’s next in my career or whatnot? Just give it up to the Lord and acknowledge him like you’re saying, Landon, I think that’s such a good call out on that word, word in the scripture. Big word acknowledges something that can [00:25:00] easily get overlooked.

But your, your example was perfect. Landon God has placed you in a very unique position to impact culture, to impact younger generations. But everybody’s gonna be able to do that in some way, wherever the Lord has taken them. So if you’re coming out of college and you’re trying to find a job and it’s gonna be in a corporate office somewhere, that’s great.

The Lord can use you in such unique ways. You don’t have to be leading worship or have a massive audience or anything to be used in culture. What would you encourage people with in order for them to be faithful in impacting culture where the Lord has them right now?

Landon Wolfe: Mm-hmm. Remembering what we have, you know, I think that’s.

That’s something that’s always just moved my heart. And and I think what you guys do so well is like wherever you’re at, you know, remembering that ultimately you hold the truth, you know? I love the story in scripture where I wanna say it’s Simon Peter who says, I could be wrong here. So don’t quote me, but where he is talking to Jesus and he says, where else would we go when you have the, you do [00:26:00] eternity, you know?

Yeah. And I’m like. I think in the same way, it’s like we’ve realized that and we know that there are people around us who are lost who are dead. And we have the key to eternity with Christ. And I think it’s so important. I’ve spent I know so many of us would have. I have been in situations where we chose our own comfort and fear of man.

And instead of realizing that someone else’s eternity is at stake, and, and I think. If we, we could have that mind mindset shift and realize that our comfort is not more important than someone else’s eternity. I think we would see a lot more people come to Jesus and, and so I, that’s my hope. That’s my prayer for myself.

It’s man, I, yeah, same there. There’s, I can think of, of moments in my life where it’s man, I wish I didn’t. Choose to be silent right there. Man, I wish I would’ve said this. And, and, and it, it’s not important. I don’t wanna get caught up on what, [00:27:00] what I could have done differently, but instead yeah, just remembering.

That if I believe that, that heaven and hell are real places. And I want, I want people to, to know Jesus. I want people to, to spend eternity with him. And I want our lives here to count. That’s literally what we’re called to do above all else. Go. Therefore, make disciples of all nations. And. And so I, I just would encourage people to remember that and to remind themselves of that.

And really just take a look inside of Hey, if I, if I really believe this, I want other people to know this. And I care about my coworkers. I care about the people around me, even the, the people you don’t know. I mean, even if there’s a situation where it’s like maybe you don’t have the best relationship with someone, I, I would hope that the thing that we hold onto, the truth that we hold onto would be worth telling ’em about, you know.

Micah Tomasella: What a call, a beautiful call to evangelism. What did you say? That, you know, seeking comfort would not hold us back from some, you know, impacting someone else’s eternity. Mm-hmm. I probably just butchered that. But that’s, that’s beautiful. And I think that that’s what we do. I think that’s what we do frequently.

This [00:28:00] concept of whatever that fear might be. I think for me, I’m I, I’m busy. I’m in a rush. Mm. One thing after the next. So I’m almost I can sometimes struggle and I, I, I want God to give me eyes to see those that are struggling, eyes to see the broken hearted. But if I’m not giving time for that, if I’m not giving space for that, you know, it’s, it’s, it’s an intentional partnering with God and I think that’s a really good call out.

This, this is my last question, Landon, and this is just kind of coming to me. You know, we’re a few years apart. Conner and I are on the tail end of the millennial. Age, and you’re kind of at the beginning of the Gen Z age, but you know, doing this type of ministry amongst Gen Z, doing these conferences with the 18 to 25 year olds, what is the prevailing dominant worry, fear, struggle right now for Gen Z, young people in this generation that you’re seeing?

And then obviously how can Jesus be the answer to that? But just practically, what are you seeing? [00:29:00] What are people, you know, what are young people struggling with right now?

Landon Wolfe: I, I think it’s, it’s pretty crazy. I mean, I’m, I don’t know the exact statistics, but Ben Stewart recently did a talk on anxiety and depression and how the, the introduction of the cell phone and social media sent those things to a.

Higher level than they’ve ever been before. People are more depressed than they’ve ever been. People are more anxious than they’ve ever been, and people are comparing themselves to others. Suicide is a higher level than it’s ever been. It’s heartbreaking, man. You know, I think it’s just like. We, we have access to so much that we don’t need.

These phones, I mean they just, the social media just is a comparison trap. It is a it is an anxiety trap. It, it’s worry, it’s it’s fear. It’s this like fear of the future of I need to make my life count for something. And instead of seeking God and asking him what. What would you like my life to look like?

And, and I just see that so much. I see people [00:30:00] who are just crippled by all these things. And, and at the end of the day, it’s like, how can we show them and remind them that, that you’re not defined by what people say about you online. You’re not defined by the amount of likes or followers that you have, that you’re not defined by the people at school, but.

But instead that you were loved, that you were chosen, that you were called, you’re equipped by the same God who created the heavens and the earth. Like that, that always blows my mind, is that like you look around, you see the world, you see us, you see humanity, that there’s a creator and this same creator, the king who sits on his throne who’s holy, holy, holy, worthy of praise surrounded by angels is also a father. And he’s also near to us and close to us. And man, I just want people to see that, I want people to find their identity in that. And I, I’m not saying I’m perfect at it. I mean, we all, we all compare, we all wrestle, we all struggle and we all, we do care what people think about us.

But man, when we can take a step back and realize that the God of all creation loves [00:31:00] us and it calls us his children has chosen us and changes everything that it changes everything. And so that’s my hope, man. I, I think it is scary. I mean, the world is not gonna stop moving. It’s not gonna stop growing.

It’s not gonna stop progressing. So I, I just pray that within that, that people would see that. There is, there is one thing that has never changed. And it’s a God who loves you and cares deeply about you.

Micah Tomasella: Oh, man, I love that. You know, and you had mentioned that you have a baby on the way, right?

Yes, yes. And you know, I, I was thinking about, I. Understanding the father’s love for us. Mm-hmm. Understanding this, this this balance between the God of the universe, all knowing all powerful. Full of love. Full of justice, perfect. Created us, gifted us walks with us always was, is and will be. Right?

Mm-hmm. And then you [00:32:00] pair that with the personal nature of God. I’ll just tell you and encourage you, I think that’s going to come to life for you even more. When, when you’re holding your baby and you’re experiencing that father’s love as the father. I, I, my eyes have been opened since we’ve had our girls.

I feel like I understand more deeply the father’s love. Than I ever have before. And that’s, that’s because I’ve been blessed with these kiddos. And so I, I think that’s even gonna be illuminated more for you. Man, I, it’s incredible. I love it. I love that.

Conner Jones: Ditto to that man. I just, having a child, it changes your perspective on everything, but really on how man a father’s love is just something that.

It’s, it’s unreal. And when it’s like you’re saying it’s the god of the universe as our father. Holy cow. We are so blessed, right? Yes. And Landon, everything you just said about anxiety and depression and cell phones and suicide rates and all that, I, I, I kind of think that’s a microcosm of why we are seeing this generation that is leaning into faith.

’cause [00:33:00] they’re realizing these things of the world are cell phones, these fake friendships or whatever it is, these idols, money, all that. It’s just not. It’s not satisfying. Yeah. It’s not doing what we think it’s gonna do or what the world world tells us it’s gonna do, but man, God will, God will take care of us.

God will provide whatever that looks like. It’s just so cool. And I, I think that is why so many people are, are saying, the world’s letting us down. Mm-hmm. But I’m seeing a lot of people who are very satisfied and joyful and happy. What’s different about them?

Landon Wolfe: Yeah.

Conner Jones: And then they find out that they’re, they’re in church.

Mm-hmm. They know the Lord. They have a faith. They’ve got something much deeper. I think that’s just so cool.

Landon Wolfe: It’s incredible. Landon,

Conner Jones: I wanted to ask you a few questions about passion specifically because I know you’ve got your upcoming conference. You said it’s gonna be in Arlington, Texas. Yes. Globe Life Stadium, which is awesome.

When you guys do passion, I’m always amazed I see all the videos. You guys have an incredible like media team that puts out in insane live streams and videos and everything. Man, I’m amazed by just like [00:34:00] how fit you all are because you all are on stage just like. Singing, but also jumping and leading worship.

And there’s so much happening. What goes into prepping for passion conference in terms of songwriting? ’cause you guys pretty much release new songs every, every conference, right? Yeah. Like you’re, you’re putting together a whole new worship set and then practicing for that and rehearsing and then getting ready to lead worship before the speakers come on stage to really tens and tens of thousands of people.

Landon Wolfe: Yeah. I, I mean, I gotta give credit where credit’s due. There is a team that basically spends their entire year, on these logistics, on creating a, on finding a space on how are we gonna get this many students in one place. And and they do it with such with such care. Like they, I truly, I truly think their heart is that students would feel like they’re walking into open arms Yeah.

When they step into fashion conference. And so there’s a team that that they are getting the word out, that they’re going to college campuses [00:35:00] that they’re finding people that they wanna be at conference and they’re figuring out a way for them to be there. And I mean, our team is just insane.

I know that there is a world that I don’t even know about that I haven’t even seen that I can’t even describe, but they’re just a bunch of legends. And so I’m just incredibly grateful for them. I think practically for me what that looks like is, is just preparing my heart and yeah, my mind and expectation for what God’s gonna do.

I think it’s conversations that like, like this, that make me so excited, you know, because it’s hey, you know, it’s like. We all feel that young people are like wanting to come to Jesus. We all feel this. Like we all feel that there’s something stirring. Okay, let’s all get together and let’s meet with God.

You know, it’s that’s, that’s what gets me so pumped and excited. I think that that’s why you see people jumping around on stage ’cause it’s this is the best thing ever. You know, it’s what, what other response can I have then to just be so excited to be meeting with God. I, I wanna give him my a hundred percent of me.

I think the songwriting and all that that’s been [00:36:00] happening over the course of months that’s still currently happening. People are writing our team is praying over the songs and asking the Lord what, what he would want us to lead, what songs he would want us to sing, and what these people who are gonna step into conference for them, what they need to be singing and what the global church needs to be singing.

And and, and so he’s just so interwoven into all of it, but man, like these conversations get me so excited. I’m like, let’s, let’s go tomorrow. I’m ready. I’m ready. So yeah, dude, it’s, it’s very exciting. I’m pumped to be back in the hometown. So that, that’s for me personally, I’m, I’m very excited about that.

Back in DFW, dude. Yes. And

Micah Tomasella: Conner, not to be rude, it’s not Global Life Stadium. As Global Life field. You Yeah. You know, they changed the name every two years. At&tt Stadiums across the street. You guys should do at and t stadiums sometimes, dude, you know, get hundred plus in there. I’m down. Yeah exactly. Let’s make it happen. Right dude. Love it, man.

Conner Jones: And that’s Jerry World, right to specify at T Stadium, it’s Jerry World where the Cowboys play. That’d be awesome. We’d

Micah Tomasella: have to ask him. Yeah. Yeah. We’d have to [00:37:00] ask him.

Conner Jones: I’ll tell you this. Micah, you and I went to Globe Life and we watched the Jonas Brothers in a concert.

I don’t know if we’re embarrassed by that or if we’re like proud of it. It wasn’t

Micah Tomasella: hang on. It wasn’t just Conner and I for clarity.

Conner Jones: That’s true. Yeah.

Micah Tomasella: It was a double date with our wives. That’s awesome. Now I’ll be honest with you, like I, she didn’t drag me there. I mean, I think, I think the Joe Brothers had been putting some good stuff out recently.

You sang along a little

Landon Wolfe: bit. Yeah.

Micah Tomasella: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Absolutely. So yeah, it was good. Honestly, it was good. She knew a lot of the older stuff, like year 3000, you know, and then I know like a lot of the newer stuff like Waffle House, like my girls love to sing along that song. But you know, as we’re kind of wrapping up and landing the plane here, land Landon, you know, I’m thinking about just an encouragement to anybody in any generation right now.

I think what’s coming out of. Conversations along, along the lines of this momentum that we’re saying with the younger generations, but even what the struggle is in the younger [00:38:00] generations. Mm-hmm. I think it’s the same struggle in any generation just manifesting itself differently. Yeah. And it’s an issue of identity.

Mm-hmm. It’s an issue of what truth is. It’s an issue of what we spend our time on and what we focus on and where we allow our minds to go. But you know, I’m thinking about for a long time, we just kept hearing over and over again. It’s your truth. It’s my truth. Yes. You be cool with it. I’d be cool with it.

We go back to the words of Jesus in John 14, six. He says, this is the truth, right? He says, I am the way, the truth, the life. No one comes to the Father, but through me. Yeah. Jesus is the only truth, the bedrock, the foundation at which we live our lives. And all three of us in this conversation, everybody listening if you’re a believer, if you have that relationship with Jesus, if the word of God is your foundation.

It, it’s exciting because it can look so different. You know, Conner and I host this podcast together, but we lead different lives. We do different things. We have different passions. You’re an entire, you’re in an entirely different [00:39:00] arena, Landon, but ultimately it comes down to what is the truth. And there is one truth.

There is one way, there is one God, and it’s, it’s beautiful and it’s, it’s a remedy to what I believe we’re seeing. The issue is in the younger generations, but even the older. Generations. It sure would be stressful to live a life without absolute truth and not really knowing exactly where your foundation comes from or what the truth is.

I think Jesus offers something that I know Jesus offers something that everyone’s looking for, and I think the issue that we’re seeing in Gen Z is an issue that we’ve seen in every generation. It just looks different each and every generation.

Conner Jones: Yeah. Yeah, that, that’s really honestly so true Micah. And there’s so much to think about with the upcoming generation and then even the generation after that.

I think it’s Gen Alpha is what follows Gen Z. It feels like a lot of the focuses is on Gen Z right now, but man, gen Alpha, they’re in middle school right now and you talked about it earlier lane, and like you’re leading middle schoolers and they’re [00:40:00] prostrate on the floor ’cause they feel the Lord too. It.

It’s, it’s just gonna keep on going. And so praying for these generations to find that truth that we’re talking about. And if you’re listening to this and you don’t know that truth, man, you won’t ever find anything better than the gospel and salvation of Jesus Christ. That is what binds us all together.

That’s what brings us all together on the same mission. And that includes passion conference and, and that reminds me. Landon, I want you to really quickly plug the upcoming conference. What are the dates? We know it’s in Arlington. We know it’s at Globe Life Field. We know that part. There you go. There you go.

But what are the dates? January. And who’s at four? January.

Landon Wolfe: Yeah. January 1st through third. 18 to 25 year olds all over New Year’s party. Do not miss it. I’m telling you, these are life-changing days. So

Micah Tomasella: Landon, you’re, you’re too old now though.

Landon Wolfe: I, I, I ju just now, just now technically aged out. But you get fast.

Huh? Wet. We don’t idea your time.

Micah Tomasella: Yeah. That’s awesome. And thank you, thank you so much for coming and spending [00:41:00] time with us today, brother. We really appreciate

Landon Wolfe: it, dude. Thank you guys. Yes. This was such a gift and I’m truly so encouraged. I love this podcast and I’m just excited to, to see what God continues to do through you guys.

And yeah, thank you for letting me be a part of it.

Conner Jones: Yeah, we’re, we’re so appreciative. Guys. Go listen to that song. We’ll link the song. Maybe we’ll link all seven renditions of the song. Yes, the Lord will Provide. We’ll link to the Passion Conference. We might record the age rendition. We’ll,

Micah Tomasella: right now we might just go ahead and get that going.

Let’s do it. Let’s just

Conner Jones: do our own recording real fast after this and release it. Lord

Micah Tomasella: will provide culture brief version. Come on.

Conner Jones: Landon, is there a place anybody can go follow you on social media?

Landon Wolfe: Yeah, Instagram underscore Landon Wolf underscore. That’s kind of the main one, honestly. Cool.

Keep out there. Cool. We’ll put that in the notes too. Updates are, guess you can

Micah Tomasella: follow him. You don’t have to, it doesn’t seem to matter too much. I’ll tell you what, he’s actually beautiful. That’s beautiful. He is you can follow me. It’s, it’s fine.

Conner Jones: If you wanna see something crazy. Landon’s and his wife, y’all did this baby announcement video and it’s like a cinema masterpiece.

And so I would go follow you just to watch more of that, like it felt like a [00:42:00] movie, so that was awesome.

Landon Wolfe: Dude, I appreciate it and

Conner Jones: congratulations on the baby too. And thank you so much. Just everything the Lord is doing in your life, it’s just so cool to see. We, we haven’t talked in a few years and we all went our separate ways after college, but yeah, the Lord’s so good and he takes everybody and we’ve got other friends that have gone to so many unique places ’cause yeah, that’s what the Lord does.

You don’t even understand where the Lord’s gonna take you in life. And so to, to see him just put you in such a unique place. It’s been really cool, man. And just keep doing the Lord’s work. I know you will. You’re very faithful. Faithful believer in man, and it’s just so cool to see. Yes. But guys, thank you all for listening to Culture Brief this week.

We appreciate just your time and we’re grateful to Landon for being on the show this week. And we will be back next week with regularly scheduled programming, and then we’ll just be talking about the news, as you all know and everything going on in the world. Find all the videos, find the songs, all the things that we talked about that we’re gonna link.

It will be in the show notes. And leave us a rating, review, and share with a friend. Have a good week.
