Janet Denison, Bible study author and teacher, author of Content to Be Good-Called to Be Godly

Dr. Tony Campolo is one of the most famous speakers and authors in America.  His homemaker wife is less famous.

She was once attending a faculty gathering at the University of Pennsylvania with her professor husband.  A sociologist confronted her with the question, “And what is that you do, my dear?”  Here’s her reply: “I am socializing two homo sapiens in the dominant values of the Judeo-Christian tradition in order that they might be instruments for the transformation of the social order into the teleologically prescribed utopia inherent in the eschaton.”

Wow.

My wife has done the exact same thing.  As we celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversary this week, I’m more grateful for Janet than I can express in words.  God has gifted her as an amazing teacher and writer (I invite you to check out her website, www.janetdenison.com, to see her blog and other materials).  And her ministry to me and to our sons has been the single most important instrument of God in our lives.

As I think of Janet and the gift she has been to me across these years, I am reminded of Proverbs 31: “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.’  Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised” (vs. 28-30).

Janet is a woman who fears the Lord, who seeks to honor him in everything she does.  Today our sons and I “arise and call her blessed,” to the glory of God.
