The note that Randy Scott wrote while trapped in his office on the 84th floor of the World Trade Center before it collapsed. (Courtesy: Scott Family / National September 11 Memorial & Museum)"84th Floor west office 12 people trapped."  These words were scrawled on a note that fell from the World Trade Center's South Tower on September 11, 2001.  The note was found by a person on the street, who handed it to a guard at the Federal Reserve Bank.  The bank then turned it over to the National September 11 Memorial and Museum.  The museum began working with the Medical Examiner's Office to discover its origin.

They found trace amounts of blood on the note, which they were able to match through DNA testing to a Connecticut man named Randy Scott.  He had worked at Euro Brokers in the South Tower, where United Airlines Flight 175 crashed at 9:03 AM.  Just over a year ago, the Medical Examiner's office contacted Scott's wife, Denise.  When she saw the note, she knew instantly that her husband had written it.  It will be displayed at the September 11 Memorial, where the chief curator says it will be "one of the most powerful artifacts in the museum."

It's been 11 years since that horrific day.  Like today, it was a Tuesday morning.  Eleven years later, we're still at war with the ideology that inspired such tragedy.  But most Americans still don't know why radical Muslims hate us.

Their reasons are twofold.  First, they believe that the West has been attacking Islam since the Crusades, and especially with by supporting Israel.  Since the Qur'an requires Muslims to defend Islam (2:190), they believe they are obligated to strike at us in return.  Second, since our nation is a democracy where we elect our leaders and support our military, radical Muslims believe that we are all complicit in this perceived assault on Islam.

To the 19 terrorists, their actions were not an unprovoked attack on innocent Americans.  Rather, they were a defense of Islam, striking at the heart of Western "crusader imperialism."  To them the Twin Towers represent the financial; the Pentagon, the military; and the White House (apparently the intended target of United Flight 93), the political.  They will continue attacking us until their version of Islam reigns supreme over the world.

Why did Satan inspire such a murderous ideology?  My friend Tom Doyle, longtime missionary to the Middle East, explains that radical Islam is Satan's strategy to keep the gospel from Muslims.  If we hate them or fear them, we will not take Christ to them.  So today, on the 11th anniversary of that terrible Tuesday morning, let's turn the enemy's evil into good.  Please take a moment, right now, to ask the Lord to bring a great spiritual awakening across the Muslim world.  Pray for Christians in Muslim lands to be bold and powerful in their witness.

And pray for our nation to remember this terrible day by turning to the only One who is "our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble" (Psalm 46:1).  A "refuge" helps only those who trust its protection.  Have you made the Lord your refuge yet today?

I wish it were as simple as you describe.

Unfortunately because American and British corporations use western military power to subdue other countries for financial gain, many people have a good reason for hatred of the west.

In Indonesia 100,000 people died (labelled communists, but actually nationalists) to free their country from a leader imposed upon them by the west who was protecting western interests and in the process robbing them. And those that were left knew that arms had poured in to Indonesia from the west to help the army to kill their friends and neighbours. It's all fully documented with references to official documents.

In the west we are fed propaganda that makes our governments out to be benevolent. But some rich westerners control events for personal gain and we don't need to be surprised about it.

Hi Bill, For more information, please read "The New Rulers of the World" by John Pilger, and see the 20 pages of notes and references given at the end.

I cannot comment on Vietnam, but there are many carefully researched books (like those of Pilger) to help us to arrive at a balanced view. Unfortunately government often does not appear to project a balanced view.

We need to pray for those in authority because they are very exposed to the influence of the prince of the power of the air.

We must Love the ones who hate us. Pray for them & care for their needs. Thank God for you and Tom Doyle. Keep reminding us in these hard times spiritually, financially and politically within our country and world. Let us stand tall for Christ in the days of trouble. May our written note say, "Lord we are alive and waiting for you on your wonderful world."

It is Muslims or their ancestors of Arab descent that were and are attacking Christians, Jews and others which they incorporated into Islamic culture indocrinating people with coercion over time. The Crusaders or Knights Templar was formed because of these peoples.

Thank you, Jim, for saying we must not hate but share Christ's love. Love is always stronger than hate.

Islam requires submission...of Muslims by obligation...of all others by force if need be. The Battles of Constantinople (8th C), Tours (8th C), and later Manzikert, Hattin, Lepanto, Vienna, and Zenta (11th, 12th, 16th, and 17th C respectively)...and 911 suggest a motivation other than retaliation for the Crusades.

Is Christian love bound to permit the slaughter of innocents for any reason?

And a corollary is that reactionary Christian fundamentalism with no forgiveness and compassion for those who do not YET know the Lord is another of Satan's ways of keeping them from the saving grace of Jesus Christ

Weren't the Crusades started to stop the spread of Islam by violence which is the method this religion's leader chose when he could not make all believe in his desert derived visions of God. The jews in Medina quickly discovered he was a fraud and turned their back on him. Or was it Mecca? If I am accurate, then I think including that in your explanation of why these narrow minded throwbacks are doing the horrible things they continue to do is not a reason but a false belief and just an excuse to kill in the name of their version of a diety.

Check out Wingmen.org - the last meeting had Jerry Rassmani who claimed 6,000,000 muslims are coming to faith in Jesus each year! He also claimed that this number may be inaccurately low. You may want to check it out.

As usual, Jim, your motives and your reasoning are rooted in Christ's love. Bless you for that.

"Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 On the contrary:

“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.

21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Agree with the conclusion. We must turn to God, not man in ALL situations. The solution to our problems with Islam is to cut all ties with Israel. We as a country and as Christians have NO mandate to support what is a cutthroat and brutal country.

I read this prior to hearing about the Libya terrorist incident! Is there a dynamic bold born again Christian witness / group that is prepared through the Holy Spirit to get out of the comfort zone and effectively convert Muslims in a Billy Graham kind of format? Can it be done without a perception of hate and anger? It seems like a suicide mission for a white American. The internet is a great tool. There is a Muslim living across the street from me who is very religious and although I have shared that I read the Holy Bible on a daily basis, I have not done more. The Christians that “have not” converted to Islam out of fear / oppression and openly profess their faith coupled with the missionaries in these dominant Muslim countries are very brave: Jesus said to them "Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money—not even an extra tunic. 4Whatever house you enter, stay there, and leave from there. 5Wherever they do not welcome you, as you are leaving that town shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.' (Luke 9:3-5).
