We received Ryan's lab results this week. As many of you know, our oldest son had cancer surgery last Thursday to remove a small tumor from his neck. Pathology indicates that the cancer has spread slightly into the area around the tumor. The good news is that this type of cancer is very responsive to radiation. Next week Ryan will begin six weeks of radiation therapy in Houston. We are very optimistic that he will make a full recovery. Our family is deeply grateful for your intercession and support. Now we ask you to continue praying for our son, that radiation would remove the cancer completely and that it would not recur. We are asking God to give Ryan strength and perseverance. And we are asking him to teach us all we are meant to learn from these hard days, as our Father redeems what he has allowed in our lives.
Here's one example: Yesterday I received a remarkable email. A very dear friend who has known Ryan since his birth sent me a prayer for fathers that he found online. It was written by Thom Rainer, president and CEO of LifeWay Christian Resources. Dr. Rainer had been impressed by a prayer written by General Douglas MacArthur, throughout which he repeated the phrase, "give me a son." Dr. Rainer realized that he needed to become a godly father before he could ask for godly sons. So he rewrote General MacArthur's prayer, substituting "make me the father" for "give me a son." Here is the result:
Make me the father, O Lord, who will show my sons the strength to face weakness; the courage to face fear; the grace to accept honest defeat; and the humility and gentleness to accept victory.
Make me the father who will show his sons not a path of ease and comfort, but the ability to accept the challenges of stress and difficulty. Use me, I pray, to be the example of one who can stand up in the storm, and there learn compassion for those who fail.
Make me the father who will teach his sons the value of a clear heart and a high goal; to look in the mirror of their own faults before they find fault in others; to learn to laugh, yet never forget how to cry; to reach into the future without ever forgetting the past.
Make me the father, O Lord, who will show my sons enough of a sense of humor, so that they will always be serious, but never take themselves too seriously. Give them humility, so they will always remember the simplicity of true greatness, the open mind of true wisdom, the meekness of true strength.
And after all these things are theirs, add for me, I pray, the wisdom to show them the dubious values of titles, positions, money, and material gain; and the eternal value of prayer, the Holy Bible, a Christian home, and a saving relationship with Your Son Jesus Christ.
Then I, their father, will dare to whisper, "I have not lived in vain."
So will I.

The following words were given to me during our hard fought days and I want to pass them to you:
Our God is the Shepherd who Guides, the Lord who provides, the Voice who brings peace in the storm, the Physician who heals the sick, and the Banner who guides during the storm.
(Taken from the names for God in the Bible)
He is enough and He is faithful,

Still praying!
I have been getting your daily emails for several years and first let me say that I am so sorry for what you and Ryan and your families are dealing with. I can absolutely say that I will pray for Ryan's strength and perseverance as well as showing the you what you are meant to learn. I do however ask why we are to pray for the cancer to be removed and to never come back. This is my quandry with prayer. I do not believe that God is going to change the course of events or outcomes because of prayer. I am not sure that I would want a God who would do that because then I am saddled with did I pray hard enough or often enough. Please, I need someone to explain why we pray for certain outcomes instead of just as you have said, strength and the knowledge that we are supposed to come away with. I was raised Southern Baptist, have always prayed, am 57 years old and have only just begun to realize how little I actually know about prayer. I used to think prayer could change results but now I do not. Please, help me understand - do you think we can change God's mind or did he determine long ago what would happen? Is our journey simply to learn to depend on God for the courage and strength to go through events both good and bad while exhibiting God's grace, peace, and glory?
I am praying that the radiation will remove all the cancer from Ryan and that the cancer will never return. I am also praying that God will provide strength and encouragement to the entire Denison family during this time.

I meet you years ago when you were a pastor at Park City Baptist Church. I remember you talking about your sons.
My prayers are with you and your family at this time.
I will keep Ryan in my prayers.
Praying for Ryan and the whole family as he begins the next step of his cancer treatment. So very, very sorry for this trial in your life.
So thankful that you continue to bless my life thru your daily writing. Thank you for sharing this prayer applicable to mothers and fathers.
My parents, H. Bailey Stone and Joyce told me of your concern and prayers for me during a recent illness. The combination of challenges faced by my body should have certainly resulted in my death. I truly believe that the hundreds, or thousands of prayers raised on my behalf resulted in my miraculous and complete recovery.
I want to thank you for your prayers and let you know that I am praying hard for Ryan.
Obviously God is in control. Since He is the power that holds all things together we pray with confidence that his will be done and expect a healing for your son.
I'm grateful to God for all you do on His behalf and am blessed that I had you in my corner during my brush with death.
Ryan is in good hands... Healing hands... Hands that conquered death.
Thank you for your prayers on my behalf and know that I will continue to pray for you, your family, Ryan and your powerful ministry.
In Him,
Tim
Thank you.
